Artist Bio
A keen advocate of new music and creative collaboration, British saxophonist Ellie Parker has performed throughout Europe and the USA as a chamber musician and soloist. Her primary teachers have been Dr. Masahito Sugihara and Naomi Sullivan, and she is currently pursuing her DMA at the University of Houston with Dan Gelok. Ms. Parker also serves as Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Sam Houston State University. Ellie is a Young Artist Fellow at DACAMERA of Houston and the recipient of the inaugural Laura Buss Sayavedra Award for citizen artistry in the city of Houston, which recognized her proactive social engagement through the combination of artistry, education, community engagement.
Nicholas Bissen is a freelance teacher and performer in Houston, TX, teaching a full studio across the city. Nicholas received his BME from the University of Central Missouri, his MM from the University of Cincinnati, his Performance Certificate from Stephen F. Austin State University. These teachers respectively are, James Gai, James Bunte, and Nathan Nabb. As an advocate for access to education and live performance, Nicholas recently toured the Midwest with a series of performances in the Kansas City, Des Moines, and Orange City IA public school communities. This tour closed with a performance of Claude T. Smith’s Fantasia for Alto Saxophone alongside the Northwestern College Symphonic Band with conductor Angela Holt.
