Ikigaioto Duo is a saxophone duo comprised of José Barrientos and Reese Burgan and formed in the summer of 2017. The name ‘Ikigaito’ is a reference to the Japanese concept of “Ikigai’ which roughly means “a reason for being.” The philosophy idealizes balance in one’s life - Vocation, Passion, Profession, and Mission. That idea of balance fuels the ensemble’s path, leading them to perform traditional works alongside new works, and informs the musicality and blending of the two saxophone voices. José Barrientos is an active classical saxophonist and studied under the tutelage of Dr. Kenneth Tse and Dr. Nathan Nabb. Reese Burgan is Professor of Saxophone at Lone Star College - Montgomery and previously studied with Dr. Jan Berry Baker and Dr. Masahito Sugihara.
