Ensemble Bio:
A dynamic and engaging ensemble, Duo Rodinia consists of clarinetist Lisa Kachouee and percussionist and composer Jamie Whitmarsh. The ensemble is committed to performing accessible works by living composers, commissioning new pieces, educating audiences, and adapting literature to augment the clarinet and percussion repertoire. The ensemble has toured in the United States extensively including a 2014 Carnegie Hall debut; international, national, and regional conference performances with the International Clarinet Association, Society of Composers, Inc. and the College Music Society; a residency with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra; and numerous recitals at universities, secondary schools, and community venues. Despite only consisting of two musicians, Duo Rodinia is able to create a vast array of timbres using instruments such as clarinet, bass clarinet, marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, drumset, electronics, and steel pan.
Duo Rodinia's 2016-2017 season included performances at the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest, the Biennial Festival of New Music at Florida State University, and the SCI National Student Conference in addition to recitals throughout the midwest. Duo Rodinia is currently part of a world premiere recording and commissioning project with PARMA Recordings featuring works by Edward Knight, Ingrid Stölzel, Joshua William Mills, Brandon Nelson, Stephanie Pieczynski, Aaron Spotts, and Jamie Whitmarsh. The project is anticipated for completion in late 2018 and includes two duos for clarinet and tenor pan—an instrumentation previously non-existent in art music.
